Diving – Summer Games 2024

There are eight events on the Diving program: the three-meter springboard (individual and synchronized) and the ten-meter platform (also individual and synchronized), split across gender. The three-meter event uses a board that allows athletes to bounce and gain height, whilst divers jump from a fixed and rigid board for the high dive. Dives are scored out of ten based on several criteria, including how aesthetically pleasing they are, their complexity, the degree of difficulty, the type of movements attempted (somersaults, pikes, twists and so on) and how well the diver enters the water. The synchronicity between the two athletes is also considered in synchronized events.

Did you know that..

1. Oldest Games Sport: Diving is one of the oldest Games sports, with its origins traced back to the ancient Summer Games in Greece.

2. Platform Heights: In Games competitions, platform diving takes place from three different heights for men (10 meters) and women (10 meters), and three meters for both men and women.

3. Synchronized Diving: Synchronized diving was introduced to the Games in the year 2000. It involves two divers performing identical dives simultaneously.

4. Judging Criteria: Divers are judged on factors such as takeoff, flight, entry into the water, and overall execution. Each dive is scored by a panel of judges.

5. Degrees of Difficulty: Dives are assigned a degree of difficulty based on the complexity of the dive. The more difficult the dive, the higher the potential score.
