Moody Center — What to Expect

Moody Center opened in 2022 on the University of Texas campus, replacing the aging Frank Erwin Center as Austin's flagship indoor venue. With a capacity of around 15,000 for concerts, it's the largest indoor arena in Austin and has quickly established itself as a must-play stop for major touring acts.

The arena sits just north of Downtown Austin and benefits from the city's reputation as one of the live music capitals of the world. Events here draw a passionate, experience-focused crowd — and the surrounding Austin scene makes any show an easy full-day or multi-day experience.

Inside the Arena
  • Modern, purpose-built venue with strong acoustics and sightlines throughout.
  • Multiple seating configurations — floor, reserved, and GA options vary by show.
  • Premium club and suite-level options available for select events.
  • Good food, beverage, and merchandise options across concourse levels.
  • Clear bag policy enforced — check event-specific guidelines before arriving.
Day-of Tips
  • Arrive 60–90 minutes before doors open for popular shows.
  • UT campus setting means limited street parking — rideshare or designated lots are practical.
  • Post-show rideshare on Robert Dedman Dr can queue — walking to Guadalupe St helps.
  • Pre-show dining on the Drag (Guadalupe St) or Downtown is easy to build into your evening.
Where to Stay

Best Areas for Moody Center Visitors

Downtown Austin
Most Popular

The default base for most Austin visitors. Strong hotel inventory at every price point, excellent dining and bars, and easy rideshare access to Moody Center. About 10–15 minutes from the arena. Our most common placement area.

South Congress (SoCo)
Most Austin

The most characterful Austin neighborhood — boutique hotels, iconic local restaurants, and a strong independent music scene. A short rideshare to Moody Center and easy access to Downtown nightlife.

West Campus / Hyde Park
Closest to Arena

The neighborhoods immediately surrounding UT campus put you closest to Moody Center. Limited premium hotel options, but ideal for guests prioritizing proximity and easy post-show access.

The Domain (North Austin)
Upscale & Quiet

Austin's upscale North Austin hotel corridor with strong 4- and 5-star inventory. Quieter than Downtown, about 20–25 minutes from Moody Center. Good for guests combining events with business north of the city.

Transportation

Getting to Moody Center

Austin is a driving and rideshare city, and Moody Center's UT campus location adds some complexity on event nights. Campus parking is limited — rideshare or private car from your hotel is the standard approach. The good news: Austin is compact and most hotel corridors are under 20 minutes away.

Airport
  • Austin-Bergstrom International (AUS) — Austin's only major commercial airport, roughly 25–35 minutes from Moody Center depending on traffic.
Getting to Moody Center
  • Rideshare (Uber/Lyft) — most practical from Downtown and SoCo hotels.
  • Private car or Sprinter — best for groups wanting timing and comfort control.
  • CapMetro Bus — routes along Guadalupe St serve the UT campus area.
  • Campus parking — limited and congested on event nights; pre-purchased lots fill quickly.
  • Bikes / scooters — genuinely useful for guests staying within 1–2 miles of campus.

  • Clear bag policy is standard — check Moody Center's current guidelines for your specific show.
  • Mobile tickets only — have them loaded before you leave your hotel.

FAQ

Moody Center FAQ

What happened to the Frank Erwin Center?
The Frank Erwin Center — Austin's previous main indoor arena on the UT campus — was demolished in 2024 after Moody Center opened in 2022. Moody Center is its direct replacement and is larger, newer, and significantly upgraded in every respect.
Is there parking at Moody Center?
Limited parking is available in designated UT campus lots for Moody Center events, but it fills quickly for major shows. Rideshare from your hotel is more practical for most guests — we coordinate this as part of all Austin packages.
What's the bag policy at Moody Center?
Moody Center enforces a clear bag policy for most events. Bags must be clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC and meet size requirements. Small clutch purses are generally permitted. Always verify the policy for your specific event — policies can vary by show.
Are tickets included in Xenia packages?
Yes. Our packages are built around verified ticket access and seating categories, with hotels and transportation layered on top. We'll confirm seat location, tier, and pricing before you commit.
Can you combine a Moody Center show with ACL Fest or other Austin events?
Absolutely. Austin City Limits Music Festival, Q2 Stadium, and the broader Austin live music scene are all things we regularly build packages around. If you're coming to Austin for multiple events, let us know and we'll put a full itinerary together.
