Augusta, Georgia, is The Perfect Place to Experience the Four-Day Race for The Green Jacket

Augusta, Georgia, home of Augusta National and the yearly Masters golf tournament, offers the ultimate oppportunity for golf lovers to indulge in the deep history of the area.

The Green Jacket

The Masters, well known as the most coveted game in golf, concludes by awarding the winner with the elusive green jacket—Pantone 342 to be exact. The jacket, which is only allowed to be taken off the grounds by the winner for one year, is designed to match the color of the beautiful fairways of Augusta National. The four-day tournament started in 1934, and members of Augusta National began wearing green sport coats in order to be easily recognized.

The Legends

The tournament began when amateur golfer Bobby Jones and his co-founder investor Clifford Roberts opened the Augusta National Golf Club in 1933. It started as an invitational tournament, but Roberts wanted it to be called the Masters in homage to all the golf legends that played in the tournament.

The first green jacket was given out in 1949 to Sam Snead, who won that year. The record holder for best score for 72 holes is Dustin Johnson, with a score of 20-under 268 set in 2020.
