Why attend the 2019 NBA All-Star Game?
Every February, the National Basketball Association (NBA) hosts the featured event of NBA All-Star Weekend, an exhibition game matching a mix of the league’s star players, who are drafted by the two players with the most votes. Each team consists of 12 players for which fans, players and online voting select who will make the starting lineup. The non-start players, or reserves, are chosen through a vote made by the head coaches. However, coaches cannot vote for their own players. Though the game doesn’t impact any team’s rankings, it is kept competitive by the winning team being given the option to send the donations to a charity of their choice. In 2018, star players LeBron James and Stephen Curry formed their own teams for the All-Star Game. Want to see the NBA's best players compete in the one and only All-Star Game? The NBA All-Star Game: How it got started, why it got started and how it’s remained successful ever since.
The game may be the main event, but it’s not the only thing to look forward to during the weekend. Events begin Friday with the Rising Stars Challenge, where first- and second-year players are selected by the NBA's assistant coaches to play in their own exhibition game. Typically following this is the famous NBA All-Star Celebrity Game, played by a wide variety of popular celebrities from pop stars to former NBA players and WNBA players.
Saturday night is when the weekend really takes off with the featured All-Stars. The night before the big game, players participate in the Skills Challenge that shows off players' ball-handling, passing and shooting ability, the Three-Point Contest and the Slam Dunk Contest.
