Hosted by a different city every four years, the Summer Games are watched across the world. The most recent games were held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 2016 and this time around, the games will take place in Tokyo, Japan in 2020. In each event, a gold medal is awarded for first place, silver for second and bronze medals for third place. Over the years, the games have increased from a 42-event competition with 14 competing nations to 306 events with 206 competing nations. 19 different countries have hosted the Summer Games and the 2020 games will be the second time Japan has hosted since 1964. This will make Japan the first country outside of the Western world to host the Summer Games more than once.

HOW CAN I GET TICKETS TO TOKYO 2020?

Though various hospitality packages can be found for the Summer Games, tickets can only be purchased officially through the National Olympic Committee of your country.

Currently, tickets to the 2020 Summer Games are only available for Japan residents. The price listing for these tickets varies from JPY 12,000 (about $108 USD) up to JPY 300,000 (about $2,704 USD) for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. Ticket prices for sports events range from JPY 2,500 (about $22 USD) up to JPY 130,000 (about $1,172 USD). 

Though these prices may vary when tickets go on sale internationally in the spring of 2019, this gives a general idea for the prices outlined by The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, who are trying to keep the games affordable and accessible to as many people as possible.  

**Important to note: Visa is the exclusive payment technology partner of the Games and will be the only payment brand accepted on the Tokyo 2020 ticket website and at the ticket box offices.
