Why attend Burning Man Festival?
Burning Man isn't a typical music and arts festival, and organizers, The Burning Man Project take pride in this. Rather than fans filling a crowd to watch performances by established bands and artists, Burning Man is a community that is (quite literally) created by its attendees and participants who build the temporary Black Rock City for the duration of the event. All event-goers are welcome and encouraged to share their creative talents as the purpose of the event is to promote "radical" inclusion and self-expression and create a lasting community.
ORIGIN OF THE MAN
The festival gets its name from the symbolic ritual burning of a large wooden sculpture known as "the Man." The burning of "the Man" occurs on the Saturday evening of the event and originated from a bonfire ritual of creator, Larry Harvey's meant to represent a spontaneous act of "radical self-expression."
