ABOUT THE U.S. OPEN:
The US Open golf tournament was first played in 1895. The inaugural tournament was far different than today's major event. It was originally played in October and it was contested on a nine-hole golf course. The first tournament had just one amateur player in the field. Ten professionals rounded out the 11 players who contested the first US Open.
It wasn't until the early 1900s that the US Open became a major golf event. In 1913, the tournament was put on the map when American amateur Francis Ouimet defeated a field of professionals. The popularity of the tournament began to rise thanks to Ouimet's win. Will an amateur golfer win the US Open in 2019 or will Koepka defend his title yet again? Head to Pebble Beach, California and find out.
